On November 3, 2021, the day before New Moon Day, gilding began on the Akem-Shield of Sekhmet the Eye of Ra and Mistress of Heaven. As of this posting the process of covering the bas-reliefs with 22kt yellow gold is still underway. A delicate and agonizing process, it is immensely rewarding nonetheless, seeing the intricately detailed reliefs spring to life with the dazzling gleam of pure gold. This is where my heart leaps from my chest, where I begin to feel a deep satisfaction at the year of painstaking labor I have expended to bring this divine image to fruition.
